Little Green House Almost Complete!

Popping in to share some pictures from our latest project: the greenhouse! We planned for this last year to be in front of our little cobwood barn but we ran out of time before winter came to get it built last year.

The door frame (temporarily closed off for the winter) will open into the greenhouse and the (also temporarily closed off) window will offer the chickens some light in their coop. The opening on the bottom of the wall is for the heat source to go through the wall.

This little addition off the front was the first thing that he (Andrew) built, extending the pallet wood roof line and sinking ceder posts. (Note what will be the little chicken door opening on the side.)

We had to light fires where the posts needed to go, because the ground is/was still frozen!

He framed for the glass and then we made the beds inside out of stone.

Really wet right now... It was messy work.

Shoveling and filling up the beds...

When we got back from our horse ride last evening, they already had four panes of glass up!

If you can see inside at all, we dug out those 'tunnels' between the beds about ten inches, giving us a little more head room.

These pictures are from bright and early this morning and look, the crew is already hard at it!

... I'd best go join 'em. :)

  1. Too Awesome !!! I am totally excited about this for you guys. I love the tunneling idea. Too smart. Plus, the greenhouse might even help the littler kids feel more important around there, since they might be able to reach better when the bigger ones can't. I love the simple design. Can't wait to see the finished product.
